Small, moderate-growing deciduous tree to 12-20’ tall and wide. This hardy selection is well-adapted for warm desert climates, and is admired for its compact size and showy flower display. Initially vase-shaped in youth, this attractive species eventually forms a somewhat-rounded head of shiny, wavy-edged bluish-green leaves that turn vibrant shades of gold in the cool of fall. A profusion of vivid, eye-catching violet-pink flowers appear in early-spring prior to the emergence of its attractive foliage. An outstanding selection for small-space landscapes in arid regions. This low-maintenance species requires little water once established and thrives in a partial to full sun exposure in a well-drained soil. Prefers some protection from hot afternoon sun in hot desert climates.
