Coreopsis verticillata ‘Moonbeam’ is easily grown in dry to medium moisture well-drained soil in full sun. Moon Beam thrives in poor sandy or rocky soils if there is good drainage. It is tolerant of heat humidity and drought. Longer blooming periods require prompt deadheading of the spent flower stalks. This can be tedious for a large area. Plants can spread somewhat aggressively in the garden. Sometimes called threadleaf coreopsis it typically grows in dense bushy clumps to 1.5-2′ tall. ‘Moonbeam’ is somewhat more compact featuring pale yellow daisy-like flowers with darker yellow center disks. The flowers appear singly in loose clusters Coreopsis v. Moon Beam tends to sprawl particularly if it’s grown in moist fertile soils. Crown rot may occur if it’s grown in moist poorly drained soils. Very effective in naturalized areas native plant gardens or cottage gardens.
