Euonymus japonicus is a family of broadleaf evergreen shrubs that are extremely versatile. Euonymus japonicus is occasionally called Albomarginatus Spindle Tree but this common name is rarely used. It is tolerant of poor soils and grows in most all light conditions. They make good choices for urban landscapes and coastal gardens. Euonymus japonicus grows in solid green and variegated versions and can be low-growing (from 1 – 3 ft.) or can reach ten 10 ft. in height. They make good large hedges because they can withstand heavy pruning. They are often used as an alternative shrub to buxus japonica for formal gardens and topiaries.
