Gaillardia grandiflora ‘Goblin’ is a short compact plant growing to only about a foot tall but it has real Everde Growers “flower power”. It produces bright scarlet-red flowers tinged in vivid yellow. The blooms come into color around early June and keep opening up until the first hard frost. Gaillardia is a very easy to grow perennial and will thrive in poor dry soils.Gaillardia are liked by gardeners for their ability to resist drought and provide a long season of color. Gaillardia should be planted in full sun in loose well drained soil. These plants actually prefer a poor soil so typical soil amendments are not necessary. Gaillardia are known for thriving in hot dry conditions but it’s important to keep them watered until they establish a good root system. To promote profuse flowering gardeners should remove the faded blooms weekly.
