Slender in youth this popular long-lived landscape favorite eventually becomes broad with age and features attractive maple-like bright green leaves that turn warm shades of yellow purple and red in the fall even in milder climates. Adding further appeal is the deeply furrowed bark that matures to a light-gray with age. Inconspicuous chartreuse-colored spring flowers are followed by 1-1 ½” round spiky seed pods that persist through fall which should be considered when choosing a planting location. This attractive species tolerates a variety of soil types is resistant to Oak Root Fungus and is well-suited as a shade lawn park or street tree. Prefers regular watering in a well-drained soil and a full sun exposure.
