Category:

Moderate-growing evergreen tree with an upright growth habit to 60-75’ tall x 40-60’ wide becoming somewhat rounded with age. This long-lived long-time landscape favorite features large glossy deep-green leaves with attractive rust-colored undersides and is accented with strongly-fragrant 8-10” wide bright-white flowers appearing mid-summer to fall. Flowers are followed by woody cone-like seed pods that exhibit glossy red seeds in fall. This handsome species is best-suited to large lawn or open space areas that can accommodate its large size and surface-rooting habit. Grows in a variety of climates from coastal to warmer inland areas though best growth and flowering performance generally occur in areas receiving consistent summer heat. Prefers regular watering in a well-drained soil and a full sun exposure.
