Malus Purple Wave is a semi-weeping spreading deciduous tree.  The leaves are a dense dark purple-green color about 3 inches long.  In the spring it develops red buds that turn into large red flowers that fade to lavender-pink over the course of their bloom.  Malus Purple Wave produces purple-red fruit approximately the size of cherries. Malus is also sometimes called a crabapple tree.  It grows up to 25 feet tall and as much as 20 feet wide. It does well in most soils but is more attractive if the soil is enriched with nutrients.
