Malus ‘Prairiefire’ is an outstanding deciduous flowering tree.  It has an upright growth form that gets rounded as the tree ages. The new growth of ‘Prairiefire’ is a red color that matures to dark green.  It produces small dark reddish purple fruit.

Malus ‘Prairiefire’ is considered an easy-to-grow accent tree.  It can be used as a single specimen tree in a yard and is often placed where its seasonal changes can be best observed and enjoyed.  The dark fruit is quite decorative but it could leave a light stain if left on the ground or sidewalk where it drops from the tree.  It is considered ideal for country and cottage gardens.
