Moderate to fast-growing evergreen tree with an upright growth habit to 25-40’ tall x 15-25’ wide. This popular species can be grown as a single or multi-trunked tree and forms a strongly upright appearance with lightly-pendulous branching cloaked in leathery pale-green leaves that tinge with purple in cooler weather. Prized for its attractive papery creamy-white to tan-colored peeling bark as well as its abundant bottle-brush-like creamy-white flowers that appear summer through fall. Hardy to around 20°F this highly-adaptable species is well-suited as a street grove lawn or courtyard tree and thrives in multiple climates from coastal to warm inland or desert environments. Tolerates a wide variety of soil types from sandy to clay and will even prosper in poor rocky soil. Requires little water in milder climates but performs best with regular watering in warmer areas. Prefers a full sun exposure.
