Penstemon Eatonii will often be called the Firecracker Penstemon.  It can exhibit both sprawling and upright growth patterns.  The blazing red color of Penstemon Eatonii is very common throughout the spring and early summer.  Penstemon eatonii grows 2 to 3 feet tall and about a foot wide.  In late spring it bears brilliant red tubular flowers.   Hummingbirds love them.  Penstemon Eatonii leaves are large & leathery looking. Eatonii requires good soil drainage as well as fairly dry conditions in the summer growing season.
