Penstemon Parryi is a wildflower native to the Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona and northern Mexico. It is an attractive perennial that blooms in the months of March and April in most areas. It has been called Parry’s Penstemon and is also referred to as Desert Penstemon.
Penstemon Parryii grows as a low shrub perennial and is usually evergreen. The foliage is 6 to 8 inches high and spreads about 2 feet wide. Penstemon Parryi leaves are bluish-green with a thick and soft texture. The lower stems are sometimes purplish in color. Parryi flowers appear as distinctive showy spikes growing 1 to 3 feet tall with a funnel shape. Penstemon Parryi has been known to show many shades of red and pink during the February to April blooming season. Penstemon Parryi is considered to be quite cold hardy for such a showy plant.
