Plant Type

Grass

Moderate-growing semi-evergreen grass to 3-4’ tall x 2’ wide. This attractive variety is admired for its colorful, gracefully-arching multi-toned foliage in shades of purple, burgundy, green and white. Adding further appeal are the foxtail-like purple-tinged tassels that rise above the foliage in late-summer. Semi-evergreen only in the mildest of climates, this variety typically goes through dormancy in most areas, with an especially colorful re-emergence of foliage in spring. For best foliage color in all areas, pruning back to 3-4” in the fall is recommended. Well-suited in mixed shrub borders, as an individual accent, or as a background to low-growing annuals and perennials. Also looks great as a large-area mass planting, as well as making a fine container specimen. Good soil-drainage is essential for this species to thrive, and while it can survive on little water once established, a more robust specimen is achieved with a light regular watering in a partial to full sun exposure.
