Prunus ilicifolia is sometimes referred to as a Hollyleaf Cherry.  It has holly-like spiny leathery leaves and bears white flowers in spring.  It is a densely branched evergreen shrub that can grow from 3 to 30 feet tall.  Some landscapers train them as hedges while others prune them into a tree.  In late spring Prunus ilicifolia is covered with small white flowers that mature in summer to large red-purple cherries.  Prunus ilicifolia likes full sun and is drought tolerant but responds well to occasional deep watering.
