Plant Type

Shrub

Moderate-growing deciduous shrub to 5-6’ tall x 6-8’ wide. This durable species forms a clumping mound of spreading, slightly-arching branches adorned with attractive three-lobed, medium to dark-green leaves that turn vibrant shades of yellow, orange and red in the cool of fall, even in warmer climates. Small pale-yellow flowers appear in spring, followed by reddish-colored berries that attract birds in late-summer. This species has few known pests or diseases and is well-suited as a background, mass planting or low-growing natural hedge, and is especially useful for planting on slopes or hillsides to help control soil erosion. Requires little water once established, prefers a well-drained soil and grows best in a full sun to partial shade exposure.
