Plant Type

Tree

Fast-growing deciduous tree with a rounded growth habit to 35-40’ tall x 20-30’ wide. This attractive variety features compound leaves comprised of small, rounded leaflets that emerge with a showy reddish-bronze tinge, mature to a bluish-green, and turn shades of yellow in the cool of fall. Showy, lightly-fragrant, pea-like violet-purple flowers appear in spring or summer, followed by bean-like brown seed pods in summer or fall. Grows in a variety of different soil types from clay to sandy, and though drought tolerant once established, this popular variety performs best in a loamy, well-drained soil with regular watering. Prefers a full sun exposure and is well-suited as an accent, street or lawn tree.
