Plant Type

Shrub

Slow to moderate-growing evergreen shrub forming a tidy mound to 2-3’ tall x 3-4’ wide. This improved variety is a cultivar of the highly popular ‘Little John’ and is admired for being easier to grow and quicker to establish, as well as for its more densely-set foliage, featuring blue-green leaves that emerge with an attractive silver-colored tone. This attractive foliage is accented with eye-catching, bottle-brush-like, bright-red flowers that appear primarily from mid-spring into summer, with sporadic bloom throughout the year. Dependable and versatile, this variety is well-suited as an accent, border, foundation planting, or as a small, formal or informal hedge. Requires little water once fully established, but provide regular watering during its first growing season to establish a strong root structure. For a more robust growing specimen, feed annually with a slow-release fertilizer in spring. Performs best in fast-draining soil with a full to partial sun exposure.
