Fast-growing deciduous tree to 40-60’ tall x 30-50’ wide with age, often forming multiple trunks. This North America native forms a rounded-crown of foliage that differs from many maple species in that it is comprised of compound leaflets as opposed to the maple-leaf-shape most generally associated with this genus. Spring and summer leaf-color can vary from light to medium-green with pale-green undersides, turning yellow in the cool of fall. Inconspicuous green-colored flowers appear in spring prior or concurrent with the emergence of its foliage, followed by winged seed pods that freely germinate in moist soil. Because of its strong tendency to sucker and reseed, this species is best-suited to woodland settings or revegetation projects where its invasive nature is not an issue. Prefers a moist, well-drained soil, and thrives in a light sun to partial shade exposure. Deer resistant.
