Succulent perennials with compact growth thick blue-grey leaves tipped with sharp black spines reaching 2′-3′ tall and wide in a distinct artichoke looking form. It will bloom after reaching 20 or more years old with clusters of yellow flowers. Withstands shade and is cold hardy. Prefers full sun to moderate shade moderate to little water when established.
