Jasminum sambac commonly known as Arabian Jasmine grows as a bushy vine or scrambling shrub. It has very fragrant small white flowers that bloom from Summer through Fall. The flowers open at night and close in the morning fading to pink as they age. Jasminum sambac is widely grown throughout the tropics as an ornamental plant and for its strongly scented flowers. Jasminum sambac performs best in well-drained soil occasionally enriched with compost. If grown as a vine it’s important to tie the stems up to supports. Keep the soil evenly moist through any warm growing season. It is believed the dried flowers of Arabian jasmine are still used to flavor jasmine tea. The flowers are used in leis. Arabian jasmine is the national flower of the Philippines.
