Moderate-growing evergreen fern to 3-4’ tall x 2-3’ wide. This popular landscape favorite is an Australian native prized for its soft appearance and lush, brightly-colored foliage. Gracefully-arching, black-stemmed fronds contrasted with finely-cut, delicate looking, bright-green foliage make this species an outstanding selection for lending a tropical feel to the shade garden. Also makes a great container specimen. Adding further interest and appeal to this attractive species are the tiny planlets produced on along its fronds – thus the name “Mother Fern”. These plantlets can be removed to propagate a new plant, or left to eventually fall and root in moist soil. Prefers a rich, moist soil and thrives in a partial to full shade exposure. Can be grown in atriums or indoors if provided good light.
