Plant Type

Shrub

Fast-growing tropical evergreen shrub to 4-5′ tall x 5-6′ wide. This dwarf variety forms a rounded-mound of lush green foliage accented with a spectacular display of bronzy-red flowers that fade with maturity to a deep fuchsia color. Blooming occurs repeatedly throughout the warmer months. Well-suited as an accent or shrub border and is useful as a colorful mass planting to control soil erosion on slopes and hillsides. Thrives in mild climates but makes an excellent container specimen that can be moved to protected areas in winter in colder climates. Bougainvillea in general does not like root disturbance, the root ball should be left completely undisturbed when planting. Thrives in summer heat in a well-drained soil and once established has low water needs. Overwatered plants will tend to have more abundant foliage with less abundant bloom. Allow soil to dry between watering. Flowers attract hummingbirds. Full sun.
