Brahea Armata is commonly known as the Mexican Blue Palm and sometimes as “”blue hesper palm””.  Brahea armata is a palm native to Baja California and is widely planted as an ornamental.  It grows to a height of 45 feet with a stout trunk.

Brahea Armata is considered to be distinctive unique and quite attractive.  Brahea Armata has a crown of rigid leaves which radiate from the top of the trunk. Blue hesper palms have distinctive blue colored leaves and may grow to 50 feet tall and 16 feet wide. The trunk is slightly swollen at the base and will grow up to 1.5 feet in diameter. It presents scarring from the base of the leaf stems that drop off or are pruned.  It should be noted that if the old leaves are not removed or drop off on their own they can form a continuous brown “skirt” that can reach from the top of the trunk all the way to the ground.  Brahea Armata flower clusters consist of small white blossoms.  This palm is considered to be one of the most beautiful of palm flowers. The shiny fruit of Brahea Armata is round and brownish black and contains a single palm seed.
