Coprosma ‘Rainbow Surprise’ is a dense rounded shrub growing to 4 to 5 feet tall and as wide. It has small oval dark green leaves that display pale yellow margins. The margins turn orange and red depending on the season. In fall the color of the leaves are deep orange-red and have a dark green color in the middle. The flowers are inconspicuous. ‘Rainbow Surprise’ is planted in full coastal sun but requires light shade the more inland it is planted. Moderately well draining soil. Irrigation requirements are occasional to regular. ‘Rainbow Surprise’ is hardy to 20-25 F. It tolerates cutting back but can be allowed to take a more natural form.
