Encelia Californica sometimes called Coast Sunflower is a perennial shrub that grows 3-4 ft. high. It acts well as a large scale ground cover. It produces 2 inch daisy-like flowers but the plant is short-lived. Sometimes it is better if mixed with ceanothus or salvias for the short-term. It is native in California from Santa Maria to San Diego. It is not frost tolerant but it will recover from 27 deg. F. It makes beautiful cut flowers.
