Encelia farinosa or Brittlebush is a common desert shrub of northwestern Mexico through California and the southwestern United States. It can be found in a variety of habitats from dry gravelly slopes to open sandy washes and up to 3000 ft. elevations. It cultivates well and has spread in areas not natural to its distribution. Highway landscapers have begun to use it in large scale projects. Encelia farinosa grows to 3 ft. tall with fragrant leaves. It produces very attractive bright yellow daisy-like flowers at the ends of twigs on long stalks.
