Ensete ventricosum ‘Maurelii’ is a genus of evergreen fast-growing perennial herbs with enormous leaves. They are native to tropical areas and there they bear edible fruits the well-known bananas. ‘Maurelii’ in particular has large red and yellow leaves with a red midrib. They grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile humus-rich soils. They can be planted alone or with palm trees in warmer climates.
