Gelsemium sempervirens (Carolina Jasmine) is prized for its spectacular display of fragrant bright yellow flowers. Carolina jasmine is an attractive evergreen vine that tends to remain bushy and compact when grown in bright sun. It is versatile so that when shaded it will climb up and over adjacent shrubs and trees to get more sunlight.
The glossy rich green leaves are narrow with pointed tips and are 2-3 inches long by half an inch wide. They grow in opposite pairs along smooth reddish-brown stems. The small clusters of fragrant yellow tubular flowers grow from late winter to early spring depending on location and temperature. The blossoms are about 2 inches long and have a flared mouth.
