Hedera helix ‘Needlepoint’ is a type of English Ivy with very attractive bright green leaves. Each have three deep lobes and are delicately highlighted with a slightly wavy margin. The small leaves form a dense cover on the freely self-branching plants. ‘Needlepoint’ is excellent as a topiary a ground cover. Hedera helix thrives in fertile rich moist but well-drained soil. It tolerates a variety of conditions but mostly prefers more light. Darker green varieties tolerate some shade. It roots from 4 to 6″ cuttings of juvenile growth from spring to autumn. Deer have been known to eat the foliage.
