Platanus Columbia is a hybrid version of the tree known as London Plane. It grows 40 to 80 feet tall with a 30-40 foot spread. Platanus Columbia is in a family of trees native to North America Europe and Asia. They are widely used as shade trees they are sturdy in strong wind conditions and are tolerant of poor soils and city growing conditions. They prefer moist deep fertile soil and grown in full sun. The fruits they bear are small aggregate balls that are often produced in pairs. Platanus is considered by some to be overplanted but it remains a great urban tree tolerant of so many adverse conditions. The natural growth habit is rounded.
