Moderate to fast-growing deciduous shrub with a mounding growth-habit to 6-8’tall x 6-8’ wide.
This unique species offers greater cold tolerance than the macrophylla varieties and features multiple seasons of interest with its showy floral display and attractively colored fall foliage. Deeply-lobed oak-leaf-like medium to dark-green leaves are accented with abundant spikes of showy bright-white flowers appearing in early-summer. Adding further appeal to this species is the attractive fall foliage color in warm shades of bronzy-red orange and burgundy. This coloration is most pronounced when planted in sunny locations. Requires less watering than most Hydrangea species and can tolerate and thrive in stronger sun exposures. Prune in fall to maintain a more compact growth form. Well-suited as an accent or colorful background. Prefers a well-drained soil as it can quickly develop root rot in soggy soils. Moderate to light watering. Sun to partial sun.
