Lamium is one of the best choices for a tough yet showy perennial groundcover. Lamium Beacon Silver forms a spreading patch of small silver leaves with a narrow green edge.  Small clusters of Rose-pink flowers appear in the spring and then continue off and on until early fall.   Beacon Silver is fairly tolerant of dry shade once it gets established.  Lamium should be trimmed back in late winter.  Lamium spreads and its stems will root into the ground where they touch.  Lamium is an evergreen that is also easily divided.
