Plant Type

Perennial, Shrub

This showy perennial shrub has mint-green foliage that, unlike the commonly grown Leonotis leonurus, will not become woody at the base. At 3-4 ft tall by 3-4 ft wide, it has a nice round upright habit and tawny orange tubular flowers on circular discs that make this an excellent pollinator plant, attracting bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. The flowers begin in Spring and continue through the Fall. In coastal areas of California, it has been known to bloom year-round. Tolerant of many conditions, it is disease resistant, deer resistant and drought tolerant. It will perform best in a fairly rich well-drained soil.
