Moderate to moderately-fast-growing evergreen shrub typically growing to 6-8 ft tall by 4-5 ft wide;. Takes well to shearing and can easily be maintained to a smaller size. This long-time landscape favorite features small needle-like dark-green foliage that develops an attractive purple tinge and is cloaked in masses of showy double dark-ruby-red flowers that present an eye-popping display in spring. Well-suited for rock gardens as an accent or colorful screen and makes a fine container specimen as well. Requires little water once established and can survive periods of drought. Thrives in a loamy to sandy well-drained soil and prefers a full to partial sun exposure. Greatest flower production occurs in a full sun exposure.
