Moderately fast-growing evergreen shrub with a mounding growth habit to 5-6’ tall and wide. Best-suited to arid climates, this sturdy Southwestern native features attractive, rounded silvery-gray foliage contrasted with masses of showy, fragrant violet-blue flowers that exhibit the distinct fragrance of grape bubble gum – giving rise to its common name ‘Bubble Gum Sage’. This species is considered to be one of the most fragrant of all Leucophyllum. These abundant flowers appear summer through fall, attracting hummingbirds, butterflies and bees. Well-suited as an accent, foundation planting, in mixed shrub borders or as a colorful hedge or screen. Tolerates heat, reflected heat, drought, wind, salt and smog, and takes well to shearing, though this will decrease flower production. A fast-draining soil is essential for the success of this species, and though able to withstand periods of drought, supplemental summer watering will help promote a more vigorous, stronger blooming specimen. Thrives in a full to partial sun exposure. Deer resistant.
