Category:

Slow-growing evergreen shrub to 3’ tall and wide. This unique, compact-growing dwarf variety features dense, undulating, grayish-green foliage contrasted with a dramatic display of showy, frilly red flowers that appear at the tips of its branches in spring, with sporadic bloom throughout the year in mild climates. A favorite for butterflies, birds and hummingbirds. Flowers are followed by small grayish-colored seed capsules that can be pruned away to encourage re-blooming. This low-maintenance New Zealand native takes well to pruning and is well-suited as an accent, border, low-growing hedge or colorful container specimen. While capable of sustaining through periods of drought once fully established, this attractive variety thrives with moderate watering in a fast-draining soil, and prefers a partial to full sun exposure. Best flowering occurs in a full sun exposure. Tolerates coastal climates.
