Plant Type

Grass-like, Shrub

Fast-growing, clumping ornamental grass to 2-3’ tall and wide. This Eastern US native is a warm season grass featuring narrow, lightly-arching, olive-green leaves accented with airy pink flower panicles that hover above the attractive foliage creating an almost cloud-like effect from late-summer to early fall. These flowers are followed by tan-colored seed heads that persist into winter. Well-suited in rock gardens, pond areas, as a background, border, or mass-planted groundcover, as well as making a good container or planter specimen. Tolerates coastal conditions and a wide variety of soil types (provided they’re well-drained) and though this species can survive on little water once established, a more robust specimen is achieved with regular watering. Pruning to near ground level in fall or winter will help promote a strong re-emergence of spring foliage. Thrives in a full to partial sun exposure.
