Plant Type

Grass-like, Shrub

Moderate-growing, clumping ornamental grass to 3-4’ tall and wide. This attractive, semi-evergreen species features narrow, arching blue-green foliage accented with flower panicles that emerge in fall with an attractive purple tinge, to eventually mature to an ivory white, before giving way to its tan-colored seed heads that persist into winter. Well-suited in rock gardens, pond areas, as an accent, border or mass-planted groundcover, as well as making a good container or planter specimen.
Tolerates coastal conditions and a wide variety of soil types (provided they’re well-drained) and though this species can survive on little water once established, a more robust specimen is achieved with regular watering. Pruning to about 1’ tall in late-winter will help promote a strong re-emergence of spring foliage. Thrives in a full to partial sun exposure.
