Ophiopogon nigrescens otherwise known as Black Mondo Grass is a slow growing evergreen perennial with black grass-like leaves. It can grow to 8 inches tall by 1 foot wide. The individual leaves are about 8-10 inches long and less than 1/4 inch wide. New growth produces a very dark green color toward the base of the leaves. These darken toward the tips becoming nearly black in color. There are clusters of spikes holding small white flowers that appear in summer. Black Mondo Grass is best in part sun or light shade and requires regular watering.
