Osmanthus heterophyllus ‘Variegatus’ are small shrubs bearing attractive leathery looking leaves and fragrant but rather inconspicuous flowers.  Osmanthus thrive in a wide range of soils including heavy clay soils.  They prefer full sun but will grow well in partial shade.  They can be considered semi-drought-tolerant once they’re established. Osmanthus heterophyllus ‘Variegatus’ is useful as a hedge plant and it provides an attractive background when used for “screening”.
