Fast-growing deciduous tree to 40-80’ tall x 15-25’ wide. Best-suited to higher elevations with cool, moist winters and warm summers, this popular variety retains a very narrow growth-habit for many years before broadening with age. Strongly upright-growing branches are clad with nearly-triangular, bright-green leaves that flutter in the summer breeze and turn rich shades of golden-yellow in the cool of fall. Adding further appeal is the deeply-fissured grey bark that develops with age. Well-suited for lining country driveways, as a mass-planted windbreak or grove, or for planting in lines to distinguish boundaries in rural areas. This variety does not produce the cottony seed clusters produced by other Poplar varieties, has a propensity to sucker, and can be a voracious water seeker which should be considered when choosing a planting location. While able to withstand dry soil conditions, best growing results are achieved with an evenly moist soil in a full sun exposure.
