Moderate-growing deciduous tree with an upright growth-habit to 18-20’ tall x 15-20’ wide. One of the smallest-growing flowering plums, this long-time garden favorite forms a short trunk and low-growing head, featuring upright branches with attractive reddish-purple new foliage that matures to a bronzy-reddish-green in summer. Profuse, showy, fragrant double pink flowers appear early to mid-spring (earlier than most flowering plums) prior to the emergence of its attractive foliage. Small fruit are seen on occasion, but are considered more novel than edible. This heat-tolerant species is well-suited as a small lawn, street, shade or patio tree, and is a popular choice for entryways or raised planters. Prefers regular watering in a well-drained soil, and a full sun exposure.
