Fast-growing deciduous tree to 40-70’ tall x 30-40’ wide. This Eastern US native forms a rounded, pyramidal shape with age, and features attractive, deeply-lobed, dark-green leaves with small bristles at their lobe apex and tip. These leaves turn attractive shades of yellow, scarlet and eventually brown in the cool of fall, and persist on the tree into winter. Inconspicuous spring flowers are followed by small ¾“ round acorns. Best-suited to regions with cool moist winters, though this species is capable of growing in warmer climates if provided with regular watering and some protection from hot sun. Tolerates well-drained or poorly-drained soils, but has a tendency to become chlorotic in an alkaline soil. Useful as an open space, park or street tree, and is one of few oaks to be considered a good lawn specimen. Prefers a full to partial sun exposure.

USDA Zone: 4A-8B
