Shrub

Moderate-growing deciduous shrub or small tree to 12-15′ tall and wide. The largest most robust of the Lilac family this species features large heart-shaped deep-green leaves accented with abundant showy clusters of highly-fragrant pinkish-lavender flowers appearing late-spring into summer. A favorite for butterflies and makes a superb cut flower. Well-suited as a background large informal hedge or small multi-trunked tree. Great for planting near patios or entryways where its intoxicating fragrance can be fully enjoyed. Requires regular watering in a well-drained soil and prefers a full to partial sun exposure. Best flowering occurs in a sunny location.
