ORANGE, Calif., Jan. 22, 2019—Village Nurseries, the West Coast division of TreeTown USA, is co-sponsoring a Landscape Architect and Design Group event with the Southern California chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) featuring four guest speakers who will provide attendees with a better understanding on the newest plant and soil requirements for today’s projects.
Launched by Village Nurseries two years ago, the Group fosters relationships with local landscape professionals, hosting events that tap into the collective wisdom of landscape architects and designers who are representative of regions in Southern and Northern California.
The Landscape Architect and Design Group event will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the University of California’s South Coast Research & Extension Center in Irvine, Calif. Registration will commence at 8:30 AM and concludes with lunch and a plant giveaway. Opening remarks will be presented by Darren L. Haver, Ph.D., the water resources advisor and director, UC Cooperative Extension Orange County and South Coast REC, as well as by new plant specialist Nicholas Staddon, The Village Nurseries Plantsman, who has led a series of branding initiatives aimed at the landscape professional marketplace.
The first guest speaker will be Mary Matava, president and agronomist at Agri Service, Inc., who will discuss integrating the physical, chemical and biological parameters of soil to improve growing conditions and develop healthy soils. The mission of Agri Service is to support organic sustainability in local communities by producing products that control erosion, improve the soil and reduce fertilizer and pesticide pollution, while reducing landfill disposal.
The second guest speaker is Joe Walker, a leading plant authority pertaining to plants from New Zealand and Australia and South Africa, who will discuss integrating those countries’ plants in the landscape.
The third set of guest speakers will provide an update on the UC Landscape Plant Irrigation Trials: Karrie Reid, environmental horticulture advisor at the Cooperative Extension, San Joaquin County and Jared Sisneroz, researcher, UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
The company’s Landscape Architect and Design Group members are provided samples of new offerings—including unique, patented and exclusive plants that are regionally appropriate—to trial in their home gardens and office landscapes. It’s part of the company’s ongoing commitment to investing in new plant varieties as well as traditional favorites for the western United States.
