Lonicera Gold Flame is a trailing vine or small shrub. It is often called Gold Flame honeysuckle because of the yellow interior color of its tubular pink flowers. Gold Flame is thought to be a more vigorous variety of lonicera with a more intense flower color. It is frequently used as a twining vine that will grow to 10 or 15 feet but it may be pruned as a rounded free-standing shrub. The rose pink flowers are very fragrant and bloom throughout much of the growing season. The most intense blooming period is from June to August. The flowers are occasionally followed by red berries in autumn. They are not edible.
Gold Flame when used as a vine is best grown on espaliers especially on or near porches or patios where the fragrant blooms can be enjoyed. Gold Flame Also may be grown on fences or over stone walls.
