Slow-growing, hardy, clumping evergreen palm typically growing to 10-15’ tall and wide, or greater with age. The hardiest of all palms available, this Mediterranean native is a clumping species forming multiple slender trunks topped with attractive, spiny, fan-like bluish-green fronds. Panicles of inconspicuous creamy-yellow flowers appear at the base of the fronds in spring, followed by showy, orange-colored fruit that mature in summer. A popular choice for coastal or foothill climates, though this attractive species has also proven itself hardy in desert regions. Tolerates coastal conditions, poor soil, heat, cold and wind, and while capable of withstanding periods of drought once established, a more robust-looking specimen is achieved with regular watering. Well-suited as a focal point in tropical landscapes or courtyard areas, and makes a good poolside or large-container planting. Thrives in a full to partial sun exposure.
